Some of the courses I've written at Code Avengers
These are the courses I was the lead designer and developer of.
Free taster courses
These three courses were all designed and developed for Hour of Code by me and with a small team of colleagues. These courses are free for anybody to access, and show a good range of what Code Avengers has to offer.
- Jumping Jam Game Design. This is a mini-course introducing students to some of the ideas they might find in digital media. I wrote a blog post on my experiences developing this course. The students build an exciting platformer game in under an hour. The course is aimed at middle school students with only basic computer skills. At the end, students can make their own custom game themed in a way that is meaningful to them.
- Robo-Restaurant Designer. This is a mini-course introducing students to iterative algorithms in a digital media context. students use a turtle-graphic block-based language to tell a robot how to paint a signs, a road, and pretty patterns. At the end, students can make their own patterns using our rich iterative pattern drawing editor.
- Robo-Restaurant Puzzler. This is a mini-course introducing students to puzzles and ideas in computer science. It is set in a Restaurant with a robot waiter. Students need to design algorithms to direct the robot, and solve logical puzzles to help the robot serve the customers.
